Welcome Mathematicians! Do the following: • Take out your homework Tonight’s HW: • Finish study guide
Week’s Agenda • Today: 11. 6 • Tuesday: Review • Wednesday: Notes due and Unit 5 Test • Thursday: Circle Project • Friday: Circle Project due/ presentations
Learning Objective(s) By the end of the period you will be able to: • Find the lengths of segments formed by lines that intersect circles.
In 1901, divers near the Greek island of Antikythera discovered several fragments of ancient items. Using the mathematics of circles, scientists were able to calculate the diameters of the complete disks.
11.6 Segment Relationships in Circles Last week we discussed ways that angles touch a circle. Today we are going to discuss ways that segments touch a circle. • All Segments inside a circle • Segments inside and outside a circle • Segments partially inside/outside a circle Because of time, we are not going to talk about these situations. However, if you want to learn about them, you can look at the textbook. I really want to get to the Circle Project before Spring Break.
11.6 Segment Relationships in Circles • Chord-Chord Product Property ( Segments Inside a Circle) If two chords intersect in a circle, then the product of the pieces of the two chords will be equal.
Perpendicular Chord Bisector Theorem If a chord is a perpendicular bisector of another chord Then that chord passes through the center of the circle ( diameter)
Exit Ticket On a separate piece of paper, answer the following questions: • Can you access the Internet on your phone at school? • Do you have a colored printer at home? This will help me determine groups for the Circle Project since I need at least one group member to be able to access the Internet during class.
