Overview • The “Wireless Data Roaming Requirements and Implementation (#79)” document is currently a CDG Reference Document • Defines network and billing implementation options between operators for data roaming • Focuses a bilateral relationship between operators. The CRX specification (#94) covers use of a third party CRX provider • At December IRT meeting, editors of Document #79 were tasked with providing a new draft
Overview of revisions • Network implementation models reduced to three • Simple IP • Mobile IP • L2TP • Pros/Cons provided for each implementation • More technical detail added • Updated terminology and expand scope, e.g. beyond WAP • Updated to cover EV-DO roaming issues, e.g. A12 • Billing portion moved to a new, separate document (provided)
Future Convergence • Currently, multiple roaming implementations are required to accommodate different operator needs • Implementation convergence will simplify inter-operator roaming • Single CDMA implementation removes a GSM competitive advantage • Suggested convergence path: Mobile IP (with reverse tunneling) • In support of IS835B
Suggested Next Steps • Review new Document #79 draft(s) - uploaded to server • Provide comments at next IRT conference call • Revise draft according to feedback • Consider initiative more toward converged solution
