  1. Makes Ponds Smaller!

  2. Product Features • Buoyant flow control devices minimize storage volume in detention ponds in open drainage basins • Two separate products: • ER Series for flows greater than 6.5 cfs • TD Series for flows up to 6.5 cfs • Frictionless operation • Corrosion resistant materials • Fits in FDOT standard inlet and J-boxes

  3. Benefits and Advantages • Reduce stormwater pond size by up to 50% • Cost savings • Reduce excavation, construction, fencing, and mowing costs • Reduce import fill requirements • Maximize land usage • Minimize the size of underground vaults or chambers • Can be used in new pond constructionto reduce land acquisition and/or fill costs. • Can be used to retrofit existing ponds to create usable land and/or increase water quality volume in existing facilities

  4. How Do The Devices Work? • Each product uses the principle of buoyancy to suspend a discharge control mechanism at a fixed depth below the water surface • Operates on constant head principle and provides nearly constant discharge independent of headwater depth

  5. The Weir Equation

  6. The Orifice Equation

  7. What is the ER Series? ER Series is a tube within a tube. Inner tube is buoyant Outer tube is stationary • Flow passes through the buoyant tube AND the annular space between the tubes. • Flow rate controlled by area at the opening to the buoyant tube AND area of annular space between buoyant and stationary tubes. • Tubes can have round or rectangular shaped cross sections • Flow rate calculated with weir and/or orifice equations.

  8. How does the ER Series work?

  9. How does the ER Series work?

  10. What is the TD Series? • TD Series is a buoyant pvc module housing an orifice • Buoyant module is connected to an expanding conduit (“the bellows”) • Bellows fabricated from high strength, welded polyurethane with stainless steel reinforcing rings in each pleat • Bellows available up to 18” diameter (9.5 cfs max. discharge) • The “Duck” body rests in its “Nest” when it’s not floating • Uses standard Sch. 80 pvc flange to connect to outfall system • Fits in FDOT standard P-box or Type D inlet • Device is self-skimming. Water enters the module from its underside.

  12. Are the devices approved? • SWFWMD has issued three (3) ERP's for Early Riser. • SJRWMD requests applicants schedule a pre-application conference prior to design (Mike Register, Kirby Green) • SFWMD has indicated it will permit the devices for governmental entities. Pre-application conference recommended. (Tony Waterhouse) • Pasco County has permitted Early Riser. • Washington State D.O.T., Cities of Olympia, Bellingham, Everett, Burlington, Ferndale, WA (and others) • Product presented to Rick Renna (FDOT State Drainage Engineer)

  13. How can we help? • Three company principals are FL licensed, experienced drainage engineers. • Provide design details, hydraulic analysis and technical support • Assist with agency permitting and coordination • Live demonstration – Test station located in Oldsmar, FL • Basic data to get us started: • Pond Bottom Elevation • Water Quality Elevation • Proposed TOB/DHW Elevation • Allowable peak discharge rate • Tailwater Elevation
