Vladimir Nabokov • Born to noble family in Russia. • Was trilingual at an early age. • After WWI, the Nabokovs fled Russia for England, then Berlin. After his father was murdered, Nabokov became a poet, fleeing Berlin in 1940 to U.S. • Wrote Lolita, ranked 4 on the Modern Library’s 100 Best Novels. Pale Fire was ranked 53 on that list. • Nabokov is noted for his complex plots, clever word play, and use of alliteration.
