What's being done to help They are a duck they can only be shot or killed during duck hunting season for 1 mouth which is stopping them from going extinct because they can’t always be shot at helping them recuperate the number of paradise shell duck.
Where they are native too. The Paradise shellduck is native to new zealand and is the only shellduck in New Zealand
How many are left The paradise shelduck is the second-most abundant waterfowl in New Zealand (after mallard). Its numbers are still increasing despite being a gamebird and at least 200,000 being shot annually (2011 figures). The total population probably exceeded 6-700,000 birds in 2011.
Why are they going extinct. They are going extinct because even through they are a game bird the population is going down by not repopulating fast enough and 200,000 to 300,000 are being killed each mouth duck shooting season
