  1. Year 8 ILA2 Assessment Focus ‘Reflecting on your own designing’

  2. Product Evolution All products ‘evolve’. The tree stump was the first ever chair ...until somebody decided to improve it. Then somebody else decided that they had an idea that was even better....and so on. For this project you are going to continually develop your ideas and then reflect on designs by evaluation.

  3. Task 1 – Market Research Choose your client (person you are designing for). Then think of 6questions that are relevant to the design of a chair. e.g. Do you like a chair with a padded or hard seat? NOT Do you use a chair? Write down the questions and summarise all your answers into sentences. Say who your client is at the beginning.

  4. Task 2 – Design Ideas Draw your 3 different ideas into the boxes, dividing the back, seat and legs into different sections. This makes it easier to focus on the design of each feature and enables you to meet your clients needs. Remember to add colour and annotate. Ergonomics is an important factor on these designs, your clients bottom needs to be comfortable! .......and Aesthetics, do your designs look attractive?

  5. Task 3 – Design Development Use the mix and match sheet your teacher has given you. Redraw your 3 ideas into each box, chop them up across the lines and mix your ideas up to see which features go well together. When you are decided draw into final idea box.

  6. Task 4 - Evaluation For this task you will need to refer back to your client and complete a personal evaluation. Look at your summary from task 1. Did your client prefer comfortable chairs with side arms? Or a chair with no back? Does your design meet all of your clients needs? Have you included the type of material it would be made from? Have you said who the target market would be? And most importantly USE YOUR EVALUATION QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS TO MODIFY YOUR FINAL DESIGN TO MAKE IT EVEN BETTER. Look at the Level boundaries in your booklet. What level are you aiming for? Can you put more Effort/detail in to achieve more?
