BackGround • We (Japanese) are very interested in the UBL and • OASIS’ activities. • But when we try to participate in these activities, there are • some barriers. • The language barrier is the most difficult issue as it • interferes with our understanding . • To facilitate easer participation in the UBL-TC, we need to • set up the Japanese Localization Sub Committee(JLSC). • Forming the JLSC, where we can converse in Japanese, is • the most suitable way to promote the UBL and OASIS’ • activities in Japan. Purpose • The purpose of forming the JLSC • 1. Understandingthe UBL through local language • 2. Diffusion of the UBL and OASIS’ activities into the • Japanese market. • Implementation of the UBL in the Japanese market with modification to accommodate local business practices and local laws. Objectives (1) (based on the Language Sub Committee Template) • Language specific localization SC (Japanese) • Activities within Japan • Translation of the UBL specifications and associated documentation into Japanese • Creation of language specific lookup table (vocabulary reference guide) for UBL element and attribute names • 5. Objectives (2) (based on the Language Sub Committee Template) • 6. Proposal of extensions to accommodate local legal and business practices • 7. Building and maintaining a Japanese web site to provide information about the UBL • Development of the versatile systems based on the UBL, which works as a interoperable system across various industries’ message standards • Research and study of deployment cases of UBL around the world, and publish them for reference to various industries UBL Plenary Meeting Nov3-7,2003

Work Items (4) • Development of the versatile systems based on the UBL, which works as a interoperable system between various industries’ message standards. • - Conversion methods between UBL and industries’ • standard business documents from the view point of • syntax and data elements. • - Create conversion systems that we can recommend for • use between UBL and various industries’ standard business • documents. • Conducting tentative implementation test to accommodate Japanese business practices and laws, and evaluating the result • Promotion of maximal utilization • - recruit new members, and teach optimum use of UBL as the best • currently available inter-industry communication system UBL Plenary Meeting Nov3-7,2003
