Drafting These notes belong in your spiral, on the bottom half of page 132 • Pick out the best and most important ideas. • Think about your audience – what do they want to read? What do they need to read? • Use your pre-write chart to draft paragraphs. • Write your body paragraphs first… then add your introduction and conclusion! Type out your pre-write!
Revising = Making it good These notes belong in your spiral, on the top half of page 133 • Decide – is every idea important? • Look for layering – does every sentence add to the thought? (If it’s repetitive… change it!) • Does the piece sound like it’s coming from experience? If not, do I need to add more details, or another anecdote? • Change all dead words! • Use a vocabulary word! • Circle the 1st word of every sentence – if they are too repetitive, change them! • Does my introduction “hook” the reader? • Does my conclusion tie up my piece satisfactorily? Read your piece out loud!!
EditingProofreading = Making it right • Have I checked my grammar? • Make sure nouns and verbs go together! • Make sure all verbs are in the same tense! • Have I checked all spelling? • Have I checked all punctuation? • Listen for run-on sentences! • Listen for fragment sentences!
