  3. Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 

  4. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 

  5. 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

  6. I. What is Evangelism?

  7. Evangelism is the announcement, proclamation and or preaching of the Gospel- the good news of and about Jesus Christ.

  8. The English word "evangelism" comes from the Greek word Euangelion which means gospel or good news

  9. What is the Gospel? • Bad News: • 1. We are all sinners • Romans 3:23 • For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

  10. Romans 3:10 As it is written, “There is no one righteous, not even one” SIN means that we have missed the mark (the perfect standard) of God

  11. What is the Gospel? • Bad News: • 2. The penalty of sin is DEATH • Romans 6:23 • For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  12. WAGE means, it is the money that is paid or received for work or services.

  13. What is the Gospel? • Good News: • a. Christ died for you • Romans 5:8 • But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  14. What is the Gospel? • Good News: • b. You can be saved through faith in Christ • Ephesians2:8 • But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  15. II. Who Should Evangelize?

  16. Acts 8:4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.

  17. Acts 11:19-21 Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews. 20 Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. 21 The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.

  18. Matthew 4:23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people Matthew 4:19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

  19. 2 Corinthians 2:17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God. 1 Corinthians 9:16 For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

  23. Why Should We Evangelize? Mark 6:38 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

  24. Why Should We Evangelize? 2. Because the lost are really lost and are headed to hell

  25. Why Should We Evangelize? Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

  26. Why Should We Evangelize? Amos 8:11 “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.

  27. Why Should We Evangelize? Romans 10:14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Ezekiel 3:17-18 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 18 When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for[a] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.

  31. Matthew 9:36-37 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.

  32. Why Should We Evangelize? 5. Because of the Unfulfilled Prophecy Concerning Jesus Christ Return

  33. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

  34. Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

  35. Why Should We Evangelize? 6. Out of love to God and obedience to His commandments

  39. Mass Evangelism • Acts 8:5-6,8 • 5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there. 6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. 8 So there was great joy in that city.

  40. Personal Evangelism • Acts 8:35-36 • 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. 36As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”

  41. Jesus Approach with the Samaritan Woman • Have a Personal Contact • John 4:7 • When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”

  42. Awakening the Person’s Curiosity • John 4:10 • Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

  43. Create the Need • John 4:13-14 • 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

  44. V. Where is the Right Place to Evangelize?

  45. ….. In Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth • Acts 1:8 • But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  46. ….. all nations • Matthew 28:19 • Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

  48. ….. Everywhere • Colossians 1:28 • He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.

  49. ….. Wherever they went (wherever you go) • Acts 8:4 • Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.
