  4. PERSONALITY AND VALUES Personality: stable traits that assist in explaining and predicting behavior Ex: being honest no matter what the consequences; and having responsibility for all of your actions; and being lazy at work

  5. PERSONALITY AND VALUES Values: ideas that are important to you as an individual Ex: Money is important It’s essential to have a degree Values are only good or bad based upon your personal experiences and influences

  6. ATTITUDES Attitude: a strong belief toward people, things, and situations Ex: Don’t care about how your classmates feel about you (you believe that instructor is more important)

  7. SELF-ESTEEM, SELF-IMAGE, AND PROJECTION Self-esteem: your perception of yourself Self-image: your belief of how others view you Projection: the way you feel about yourself and your environment is reflected in how you treat others

  8. DEALING WITH NEGATIVE “BAGGAGE” Past experiences heavily impact your personality, values, and self-esteem Confront your past Practice forgiveness Move forward Keep in mind that it is sometimes a painful process to reach your goal of becoming the best individual you can be

  9. LOCUS OF CONTROL Locus of control: identifies who you believe controls your future Take responsibility for your actions, and do your best You cannot totally control the environment and the future

  10. LEARNING STYLES Learning Style: the method of how you best take in information and/or learn new ideas Visual learner—learns best by seeing Auditory learner—learns best by hearing Tactile/kinesthetic learner—learns best by feeling, touching, and holding

  11. YOUR PERSONAL HANDBOOK Personality and attitude affect your performance both personally and professionally Use this text as a handbook to guide you in both personal and career plans Begin developing a positive attitude and believe in yourself and your abilities
