  3. Time Expression with Hacer • Formula • Hace + time+ que+ present tense verb • I have been studying Spanish for 3 years. • Hacetres añosqueestudio español. • They have been studying English for 5 years. • Hacecinco añosque ellos estudian inglés.

  4. Time Expression with Hacer Practice Use: Hace + time+ que+ present tense verb 1. Ellos / correr /2 meses. They have been running for 2 months. 2. Yo / jugar al golf / 7 días. I have been playing golf for 3 days. 3. Tú / cocinar / 3 años. You have been cooking for 3 years.

  5. Time Expression with Hacer Answers Use: Hace + time+ que+ present tense verb 1. Ellos / correr / 2 meses. They have been running for 2 months. Hacedos mesesque ellos corren. 2. Yo / jugar al golf / 3 días. I have been playing golf for 7 days. Hacesiete díasque yo juego al golf. 3. Tú / cocinar / 3 años. You have been cooking for 3 years. Hacetres añosquecocinas.

  10. Time Expression with Hacer For extra credit: There is another way of telling how long something has been taking place using hacer. This formula uses desde. What does desde mean? Desde translates to since.

  11. Time Expression with Hacer The second formula is: Present tense verb + desde hace + time I have been studying Spanish for 3year. Estudio español desde hacetres años. They have been studying English for 5 years. Ellos estudian inglés desde hacecinco años.  Notice that you do not have to use a tense to say “they have been studying”; just use the present tense “estudian”.

Yo jugar al golf 3 días. I have been playing golf for 7 days. Yo juego al golf desde hacesiete días . 3. Tú cocinar 3 años. You have been cooking for 3 years. Cocinas desde hacetres años .

  14. Time Expression with Hacer • To make this formula negative, put no in front of the conjugated verb. NOPresent tense verb + desde hace + time • Yo /no estudiar español / un año I have not studied Spanish for a year. Noestudio español desde hace un año .

  16. Time Expression with Hacer RECAP: There are 2 ways to indicate length of time an action has been taking place. 1. Hace + time+ que+ present tense verb Or 2. Present tense verb + desde hace + time Both can be made negative by adding “no” in front of the verb.
