  1. How to Add a Proper Heading To a Word Document Michelle Lowe – Media Specialist – 12/4/2013

  2. Open a New Blank Document • Double click on the Word icon on the desktop. • Double-Click on the “Blank Document” option. • The screen below will appear.

  3. Change the Cursor Alignment • Since your teachers want your heading on the right, you will want to change your cursor so that it is on the right. • While on the “Home” tab, go to the “Paragraph” section and click on the “Align Right” option. You will notice that your cursor will jump to the right of the page.

  4. Set the Font, Type the Heading • The preferred font at MBMS is Times New Roman, Size 12. • While on the “Home” tab, go to the “Font” section and click on the arrow next to the current font name and select “Times New Roman”. In the box beside it, use the arrow and select size 12. • Once the font is set, you can type in the information below.

  5. After the Heading is Complete • You will want to reposition your cursor. • If you are going to type a title for your document, press enter, then click the “Center” button above in the “Paragraph” section. • Your cursor will jump to the center and allow you to type your title

  6. After the Title is Complete • In order to begin typing the paragraphs of your document, you will need to reposition your cursor to the left side of the page. • To do this, press enter after the title. (Your teacher may want you to press enter twice.) Then click the “Align Left” button in the “Paragraph” section at the top.

  7. One Last Detail Before Typing • At the beginning of a paragraph, there is normally a 5 space indention. It is not necessary to press the space bar 5 times to create that indention. All you need to do is press the “Tab” key on your keyboard.
