4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. I Corinthians 13:4-8
I Corinthians 13:4-8 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails.
Where are you going? Who are you going with? What time will you be home?
…to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room…
…to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes.
I Corinthians 13:1-13 1If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
12For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
What Does Love Do? Love Sustains
Life is full of pressure Love is patient…bears all things…endures all things. (VS. 4, 7)
Love Overcomes If love preoccupies the soul, temptationsare powerless.
Genesis 39:9 “How can I do this thing and sinagainst my God?”
Love Motivates Love compels us to beand do our best! II Corinthians 5:14 - For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
Matthew 22:37-40 37And He said to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ 38This is the great and foremost commandment. 39The second is like it,‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’40On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
Philippians 4:4, 11-12 4Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! 11Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. 12I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
Love is the StrongestPower Known to Man
Romans 8:38-39 38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
