  1. 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 • And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. • And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

  2. The Apostles Preaching Christ and Him Crucified

  3. Not About: Human Wisdom And I brethren when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom declaring unto you the testimony of God (2:5). 1. Human wisdom is useless (1:18-19). 1) to destroy 1a) to put out of the way entirely, abolish, put an end to ruin 1b) render useless 2. Human wisdom is foolish (1:20-25).

  4. Not About: Personality or Power And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: (2:3-4). He never tried to attract people to him (1:12-16). He turned people from him to God (Acts 14:13-18). Peter and John did the same (Acts 3:11-13)

  5. They Preached Christ and Him Crucified For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ and him crucified (2:3). Christ is the message from God to man 1. Acts 2:22-24 2. Christ death, burial, and resurrection. 3. Acts 3:14-15 4. 1 Corinthians 1:23 5. Acts 8:5; 12-13; 32-35

  6. Why Preach Christ and Him Crucified? That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God (2:5). Preaching Christ preaches God’s eternal plan. • Christ deity (John 1:1-3; 14; 5:17-18; 10:30). • Man’s sin (Rom. 3:23; Luke 19:10). • God’s grace (John 3:16; Titus 2:11-12). • The plan, place and person of salvation (Mk 16:15-16; Acts 2). • Man’s only way out of sin and into heaven (John 14:6). • Peace, joy, love, mercy, forgiveness, hope and hell. • Preaching anything or anyone else preaches nothingness (Acts 4:12; 1 Cor. 15).

  7. Words Every Preacher Should Say AndEvery Hearer Should Hear: And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Cor. 2:1-2, 5) To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus (Col. 1:27-28)
