Developmental Education • Director of Developmental Education has joined Kentucky Adult Education Content Standards Group • Discussions are underway on transition to Eastern Kentucky University • Study at EKU has shown developmental students do as well as those entering with no developmental needs.
What activities are working? • Networking • Visiting different locations • Identifying barriers and ways to assist • Conversations have begun with faculty from English, Math and Reading • Sharing Ideas
What challenges have we faced? • Knowledge base differs from place to place and from adult ed partners to postsecondary • Funding Programs are not consistently applied • Everyone has so much on their plate
What activities haven’t worked? • It was slow getting started developing marketing plan
What do we consider our best practice? • Mentoring students • Regular meetings encourage collaboration which ultimately helps students
What recommendation for other programs? • Quarterly meetings between adult education and post-secondary partners
How do we plan on sustaining? • All of our staff time has been donated to the grant. We will continue to meet with partners – maybe once each semester. • Will there be additional marketing funds? • New thoughts on funding?
How is our program making a difference at our institution? • People are talking about GED transition who have never before! • Key player added to state committee • Discussions going on between developmental education and Madison County Adult Ed
How is this program making a difference in adult ed partners? • Marketing funds • Knowing post-secondary institutions are interested in their students and their success

Knowing more about our students! • More we work together, the more we will learn about our students • Networking allows us to move students through both systems.
