  4. To Be Covered in Classes • Classroom rules, procedures, grading policies… • Curriculum and Resources • Best method of communicating with teacher • Ways to best support your child in the class • Volunteer opportunities or classroom needs • Answers to any of your questions

Big Changes This Year • Common Core Standards http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc/tl/whatareccss.asp • No Leveling of Math Classes • Activity 2x a week • Behavior Plan (addendum to handbook passed out to students) • Early Release Wednesdays (beginning September 4) • After-school support classes (M, T, Th.) • New Technology Tools for Communication • Illuminate Parent Portal (more information coming) • Teacher Web Pages

  6. Teacher Web Pages • Go to District Main Page at http://spreckelsunionsd.org • Go then to Buena Vista Middle School Page • Click on “Teachers” • Choose your child’s teachers from the directory

  7. Extracurricular Activities • Band-will meet during a “zero period” 2-3 times a week; Mr. Souza will be meeting with kids in the next couple of weeks • Sports-general Fall Sports meeting tomorrow at lunch for students • Clubs-will be announced to students as they are formed • Leadership/ASB-meets during Activity Period • Dances sponsored by ASB; parent chaperones welcome!!
