  1. Warm Up: Dachshunds are selectively bred to fit into badger holes. What do you think is the difference between selective breeding and natural selection?

  2. Evolution vs. Selective Breeding Evolution is the gradual change of species over time. Natural selection and “survival of the fittest” control evolution. People trying to create a particular set of traits control selective breeding.

  3. Natural selection: process where individuals that are better adapted to their environment survive and reproduce longer. • Survival of the fittest – organisms with the best adaptations live longer so reproduce more. • Bacteria change and antibiotics may not work! – antibiotic resistant.
