3. What is it? • Selective breeding is the process of breeding plants and animals for particular genetic traits. • Bred animals are referred to as breeds while bred plants are known as varieties, cultivars or cultigens. • Crossbred plants are called hybrids while the cross of animals results in what is called a crossbreed.

4. Plusses • Selective Breeding lets people improve the traits in their agricultural plants or animals. • There would be a larger or more fruits or seeds, better resistance to diseases, greater fertility or more specific changes to the agricultural environment. • Selective breeding can produce fitter, stronger animals or animals of a higher yield of milk, meat or eggs. • Animals can be produced better suited to survive in bad climates or marginal conditions.

Minuses • Selective breeding gets rid of variety • Adolf Hitler attempted to selective breed humans • If an unknown disease is selectively bred through with an animal, the disease will be very common and almost impossible to get rid of. • If you were to selectively breed a cow to produce more milk/ have a large udder, it would be too heavy for the cow to carry and the cow would have a sore back and be in a lot of pain. • These problems are constantly growing, because we are constantly advancing in selective breeding.
