  1. OneDrive Welcome to Computing in the Cloud

  2. What is Cloud Computing? • The name comes from the common use of a cloud-shaped symbol used when showing complex system infrastructure. • The use of off-site computers to provide resources (hardware and software) that are delivered as a service over a network (typically the Internet) for individuals & organisations. • For example, email, photos & storage of documents. • It helps, to reduce costs of maintenance and upgrading of in-site facility.

  3. What is OneDrive? • Owned by Microsoft, previously called SkyDrive & Windows Live Folders. • A file hosting service that allows users to upload and sync files to a cloud storage and then access them from a web browser or their local device(phone/tablet). • Changed its name from SkyDrive to OneDrive at the end of January this year

  4. It is part of a range of online services and allows users to keep the files private, share them with contacts, or make the files public. • Files shared publicly do not require a Microsoft account to access. • The service offers 7 GB of free storage for users – at UCOL this is not metered – meaning anything you put on/take off while at UCOL does not count towards your internet usage.
