Majority Rule and Minority Rights • Majority rule is the principle that the opinion of the greater number should prevail. • Minority rights is the principle that the rights of the minority must be safeguarded • In Canada the Charter of Rights and Freedoms lays out the rights for the majority while recognizing the rights of all groups e.g., Freedom of Religion

  4. Responsibility • “A duty or obligation.” • Rule of Law • The principle that that people are governed by laws and that no person is above the law.

  5. RightResponsibilty • Right to drive • Right to vote • Right to free education and health care • Responsibility to obey traffic laws • Responsibility to know the candidates • Responsibility to pay taxes to ensure that we continue to receive these
