Worm Bins vs. Regular Compost Piles • Worm compost is 7 times richer in nutrients. • Worm bins require no turning or watering. The worms do all the work!
How to Set up a Worm Bin • Step 1: Find a bin (shoebox, bathtub). • Step 2: Find a place for the worm bin. • Step 3: Collect worm bedding (newspapers, paper egg cartons, cereal boxes). • Step 4: Shred the bedding materials. • Step 5: Collect kitchen scraps in another closed plastic container.
How to Set up a Worm Bin(continued) • Step 6: Alternate layers of bedding and worm food about ¼ of the way up the bin. • Step 7: Let the bin sit for a week, if possible. • Step 8: Add the worms. • Step 9: Keep a dry layer of bedding on the top. • Step 10: When chunks of food are gone, continue to add more food and bedding, until you have enough compost.
