Brichta Bins By Anthony Guillen & Leonardo Franco
What is Brichta Bins? • Recycling project • People don’t recycle at parks. • Lots of water bottles on the ground.
Looking for a solution… • What if we would recycle at parks? • Could that be done? • We turned our idea turned into a dream.
Principal Approval Sabrina Cruz Principal Brichta Elementary
City and Neighborhood Partnership Diana Rhodes and Yvonne Merrill helped us start this project from the beginning.
Putting out our Bins and our schedule • We talked to park staff Rick Garcia, Freddy Lopez and Oscar Escobar. They agreed to help us. • We worked out a schedule and the locations for the bins. • We designed posters to let people know what to put in the bins.
Counting the Recyclables • We manage three bins at Joaquin Murrieta Park • Every Wednesday, we walk to the park to collect and count the items in our bins.

Future Plans… • Brichta Elementary will officially adopt Joaquin Murrieta park. • Upcoming 4th grade classes can be trained to manage the park over the summer. • Invite other schools to learn about project based learning by following our model. • Have a city wide competition to see which school has the best recyclable to trash ratio. • We would also like to place more bins at the park
Future Plans… Instead of small bins… Can we get large ones?
Future plans…. Instead of using the school’s commercial bin... Could we get one placed at the park?
