  23. Pollution and Disease General World Background According to 2007 State of the World, the health challenges that Southwest Florida faces are different compared to poor counties around the world. The largest contributor of death in the world is digestive-tract diseases. This is due to poor sanitation and lack of clean water in urban areas. In these poor urban places, people live a polluted lifestyle, where the air, water and land is contaminated. These deficient places are infested with infectious and communicable diseases. Some of the top world-wide health related diseases include TB, measles, diarrhea, and digestive tract disease and are diseases that could be prevented through proper medical care.

  24. Pollution According to the website, Florida Lawn and Neighbors, one pollution problem that Southwest Florida encounters is pesticides and fertilizers that are used on lawns and has especially become a problem due to explosion of population growth. These chemicals get into the soils and rainfall causes them to get into estuaries causing harm to sea life and in effect to humans.

  25. Child Obesity and Local Program According to the Florida Department of Health, five of the six counties in Southwest Florida have childhood obesity rates between 30-37%. The region is also experiencing tremendous growth and population migration, but most residents are dependent on automobiles. Get Up. Get Out. Get Active! developed a plan to get children, families and individuals to include physical activity in their regular routine and to encourage people to get active and explore the natural spaces in Southwest Florida—from their yards and neighborhoods to the area's parks, preserves, rivers and beaches. http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:3JPG-m9GvsgJ:www.soundpartners.org/node/1604+%22lee+county+florida%22+and+obesity&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=10&gl=us
