Mountains • Tallest Landforms • Steep slopes and tall peaks • Single peaks, chains, ranges, mountain systems (Rocky Mountains=6 mountain systems)
Hills • Smaller than mountains • Rounded crests
Canyons • Deep valleys with steep sides • Often a river or stream run along the bottom of a valley or canyon
Plateaus • High landforms with flat surfaces • Often found along the tops of canyons • Can extend for many miles
Mesa • Similar to plateaus, but smaller • Spanish word for “table”
Plains • Broad and flat • Lower than their surroundings
River Valley • A river flowing (usually through a valley)
Flood Plain • Floor of a river valley on either side of the river • Water covers when it overflows • Can be hundreds of km wide
