  4. Hills • Smaller than mountains • Rounded crests

  5. Canyons • Deep valleys with steep sides • Often a river or stream run along the bottom of a valley or canyon

  7. Plateaus • High landforms with flat surfaces • Often found along the tops of canyons • Can extend for many miles

  8. Plateaus

  9. Mesa • Similar to plateaus, but smaller • Spanish word for “table”

  10. Plains • Broad and flat • Lower than their surroundings

  11. River Valley • A river flowing (usually through a valley)

  12. Flood Plain • Floor of a river valley on either side of the river • Water covers when it overflows • Can be hundreds of km wide
