Initiative Overview • $2 Million Dollar Grant • 5 Geographic Regions (selected by Walmart Foundation & YBUSA) • 1 Lead site per region • 5-7 participating programs per region • Grant Period of November 1, 2012 – October 31, 2014 • Building on and Expanding Existing Relationship with Walmart Foundation
PCC Design The PCC Initiative aims to: • Respond to Local Labor Market Needs • Provide Integrated PSE & Career Preparation • Establish and Deepen Industry and PSE Partnerships • Facilitate Successful Student Transitions into Postsecondary and Career Pathways
PCC Design (Continued) Core Practices: • Promoting Student Engagement • Improving Skill Development (for college and career readiness) • Creating Optimal Program and Classroom Culture to Promote Learning • Deepening a Data Rich Culture to Inform Program Practice • Preparing for 2014 GED and/or Common Core Standards • Implementing YouthBuild USA’s Career & Postsecondary Development Model; and • Collecting and reporting data with accuracy and timeliness
PCC Goals • Create pathways into high-demand middle-skill occupations • Create pathways into and through postsecondary credentials • Establish partnerships with employers in high demand sectors • Expand or establish partnership with postsecondary education institutions • Establish 5 active regional communities of practice
PCC Outcomes Aggregate Numbers: • Engage at least 3,000 participants • Ensure that 2,100 participants complete their respective local YouthBuild program • Place 1,500 in career, PSE, or both • Increase number of females served by YB
Reporting Requirements Through WebSTA-Q: • Number of students • Number of completers and completion rate • GED/high school diplomas attained and attainment rate • Number of graduates placed in jobs, postsecondary education, and both • Number of graduates earning postsecondary certifications, by certification • Number of students placed in high-demand occupations, by occupation • Number of graduates retained in jobs 3 months after placement
Grant Funds Use Grant funds cannot be used for the following purposes: • Carry on propaganda or otherwise attempt to influence legislation • Influence the outcome of a public election or carry on any voter registration drive • Provide a grant to an individual for travel, study, or similar purpose (except as described in permitted uses – including travel to events and trainings related to the grant) • Provide a grant to any other organization
Grant Funds Use (Continued) Grant funds cannot be used for the following purposes: • Construct buildings or fund capital campaigns • Sponsor galas or pay for any membership fees • Promote or engage in criminal acts; or discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, religion, military and veterans status, disability, sex, age, or sexual orientation; or support any entity that engages in these activities
Regional Leads Beyond Participating Site Work, Regional Leads Will Also: • Lead regional collaborations and host annual training(s) • Support and co-lead with YBUSA process of sharing and documenting best practices • Expand and help implement existing high-demand career training program(s) • Leverage grant with other private and public funds;
New York City Launch MeetingApril 22-23 (Please Register ASAP) • Regional Planning Time and Regional Presentations • Sector Strategy Presentations on: • Manufacturing • Health Care • Construction/Building Trades • Begin working on Individual Work Plan • Participate in Education Conference as Available (April 23-25)
Next Steps • Meet as region (before, during, and after NYC launch meeting) • Follow terms of grant agreement for programming, conference participation, narrative grant reporting, budget reporting and data reporting (see grant agreement) • Succeed at even higher levels placing young people into postsecondary and career pathways that empower them to lead and succeed
