Classroom Library Rules • Two books at most may be checked out at a time. • Books are due back within a week. • Books from Browsing Boxes may only go home overnight. • Return check-out books first thing in the morning. • Do not disturb someone who is reading. • Please whisper in the classroom library. • If you need help, first ask a friend or consult the library map. • If you still need help, ask the student librarian. After trying these steps, ask the teacher or other adult helper.
Student Librarian • One in each group • Helps keeps things organized
Label Books • Code them • Get parent help!!!! • Sort them yourself, then get kids to put the code on the book for you. • So they know what bin it goes back to… • Colors– colored dots • Pictures- address labels with pictures • Letters- letter stamps/stickers • Shapes- stickers or address labels

EEKK, Voice, Check • Teach them EEKK- Elbow to Elbow, Knee to Knee • Voice Level- very soft • Check for Understanding- • Summarize what the partner read I heard you read that ____________________. Who? What happened? Where did it happen?
Ways to Read to Someone • I Read, You Read (good to build fluency) • One person reads while the other person listens and check for understanding • Read Two Different Books

How to Choose A Partner • Ask- how do you think kids in our room could communicate the need for a partner?
Coaching or Time? • Discuss a student coach. • Ask—have you ever been with a partner and come to a word you didn’t know? We are going to learn how to be a reading coach for our partner.
