SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE • DESCRIPTION The simple present tense expresses daily habits or usual activities, as in (a) Ann takes a shower every day. And (b) I usually read the newspaper in the morning. The simple present expresses general statement of fact, as in (c). Babies cry. Birds fly.
SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE Usage : We use the simple present tense to describe an action which goes on every day or all the time. Formula : S + Verb1 (s) + O Example : I go to the school. He comes to school by bus. We read the newspaper in class every day.
SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE ( Third person singular ) In the simple present tense of some verbs, we add es instead of s in the third person singular. • If a verb ends in y preceded by a consonant, we change the y toi and add es. This applies even when the question begins with words like where, why, when, how, and what. Example : He lives alone Does he live alone? Why does he live alone?
