Blackout poetry is a form of "found" poetry that allows the poet to use someone else's words to write a poem.
Using a photocopied page from “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” you are going to write a poem inspired by this text. Your poem should reflect a theme, motif, or message of Edwards’ text.
Tips Be creative! Have fun with it!
Even better: *You can use color and design, too! *Example >
Use color and design to suit your poem’s images and/or theme.
Create a black-out poem as a response to “Sinners…” • Capture ideas that reflect a theme of the text. • Be creative! (Perhaps you can use a flame design for blocking out?)
Step 1: Use pencil to underline words you might want to use (should read left-right, top-bottom) Step 2: Next, circle words that you definitely want to use (approx 8-20) Step 3: Use a marker to block out all of the other words
Step 4: Make your Blackout Poem visually appealing, as they will be displayed in the classroom. Step 5: Give your poem a title. Due by Monday.
