Here are some facts about the Romans • The Romans built Hadrian's wall. • Romans ate food that they grew such as vegetables. • They used cereals that they grew to make bread.
This is what the Romans would have eaten • Pottage – Pottage is a thick stew made from wheat, millet or corn. • Ordinary people would eat wheat, barley fish, wine and vegetables.
This is what the Romans would have worn. • Men wore a knee length tunic (Chilton) either sleeveless or short -sleeved. • Important roman's dressed in a long robe called a toga. • Women wore a longer tunic which were often knee length. • Rich women wore long tunics made from expensive cotton or silk.
Why did the Romans invade Britain • They wanted more land so they could impress their Emperor. • They wanted Britain's hunting dogs so they could fight properly. • The weather was wetter in Britain so the crops would grow better and the Romans could pinch them. • They wanted the fame and glory and to get really, really rich.
