  3. Matthew 5:6 • “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” • A desire to be right with God that is natural, continuous, and primary. • Patience is a part of righteousness.

  4. Definition • Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary • 1. (n.) The state or quality of being patient; the power of suffering with fortitude; uncomplaining endurance of evils or wrongs, as toil, pain, poverty, insult, oppression, calamity, etc. • 2. (n.) The act or power of calmly or contentedly waiting for something due or hoped for; forbearance.

  5. Our Thirst for Patience: • Most people struggle with being patient and they want people to show them patience. • Developing patience helps us with the frustration and anger that can lead to sin. • People try many ways of developing patience.

  7. Developing Patience • On a scale of 1-10 how patient are you usually? • What sets you off? • What calms you down? • How has connecting to Jesus helped you develop, or discover patience?

  8. Help #1 - Perspective • How many times have been impatient with someone and then they apologize and let you know what happened and the impatience went away? • Often our perspective makes a difference.

Passages • Proverbs 14:29 A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly. • Proverbs 15:18 A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel. • Proverbs 16:32 Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.

  13. Passages • 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. • The call for “patient endurance” is found in Revelation 1:9, 13:10, 14:12.

  14. How Do You Be a Better Waiter??? • See others as Christ sees you. This is the one that makes the difference. • Set realistic expectations and be flexible. • Simplify and avoid over planning. • Do unto others as you would have done to you. Matthew 7:12 • Focus on other parts not just the frustration. • Help others by communicating. • Offer and ask for forgiveness.
