The Devastating Effects from the Truth of Smoking By Natalie Stone
Risks of Smoking • Smoking can higher your risk for lung cancer, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease not to mention ages you more quickly . • Also smoking causes an increased risk for developing cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx (voice box), esophagus, pancreas, kidney, bladder, and uterine cervix
Being A Smoker • I started smoking when I was 16 years old. I decided to smoke when I started my first job. The rest of the employees I worked with would take a break and ask me to come and I did. And every since then I have been smoking. • I know the horrible risk that that smoking can cause but yet I still chose to smoke. • But after seeing this anti smoking commercial with Reena Roberts my who outlook on smoking changed.
True Reality Unfiltered • The North Carolina Health and Wellness program sponsors the TRU advertisements that we see on television. • The most common place I have seen the anti-commercial with Reena Roberts is on MTV. • Reena Roberts is the girl that started smoking at 13 and developed stage four cancer at 19 in her throat. In result she had to have her voice box removed.
Reena Roberts • In the commercial, Reena starts off with how she spent most of her time singing in the chorus at school. • She loved to sing. And now she cant even sing along to the radio. Reena continues to say that she misses the sound of her own voice and that she will never hear it again….except in her mind. • While the commercial is running there is captions stating when Reena started smoking and that within 6 years she developed stage four cancer.
Effects • Watching Reena on the commercial has truly affected my life and has made me questioned why I smoke and the risk I run of developing a life threatening illness. • Her true story has allowed me to understand that smoking does effect people and I am not exempt from it. Her story has allowed me to open up my eyes and stop smoking and live a healthier life. • This advertisement is extremely influential in such a positive way I feel most teens who see this will reconsider their decision to start smoking and to stop smoking. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES9e_3BBaWA
