TESC Forest Plot C-7 Alexander Hamilton, Edward Holbrook, Evan Griffith, Magi Belknap, Robin Gruginski
This slideshow is the product of three months of monitoring and data collection and interpretation
Plot C-7 Species • Salal (Gaultheria shallon) • Sword Fern (Polystichem munitum) • Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) • Ocean Spray (Holodiscus discolor) • Bracken Fern (Pteridium aquilinum) • Trailing Black Berry (Rubus ursininus) • Red Huckle Berry (Vaccinium parvifolium) • Evergreen Huckle Berry (Vaccinium ovatum) • Cascara (Rhamnus purshiana) • Dull Oregon Grape (Mahonia nervosa) • Baldhip Rose (Rosa gymnocarpa) • Twin Flower (Linnaea borealis) • Scouler’s Willow (Salix scouleriana)
C-7 Trees The Majority of trees in C-7 consists of Douglas Fir with the exception of one Scouler’s Willow.
Snags • C-7 consists of 4 snags within 10 m of the plot center. • There are 38 snags within 30 m of the plot center. • 84.2105% of the snags are Douglas Fir (PSME). • The remaining snags are unrecognizable. • The average Diameter Breast Height (DBH) is 8.7 in. • The average Height is 40.3 ft. • The average decay class of these snags is 4.6. • The large number of snags may be due to a root fungi migrating through plot C-7
Root Fungi • The root fungi predominantly affects the Douglas fir population, shrubs and other trees do not seem to be affected by the fungi. • If the fungi migrates fairly fast, most of the trees within plot C-7 will soon be affected by the disease.
Blue = Snags Above 20ft. Height (30 M Plot) • Red = Snags Below 20ft. Height (30 M Plot) • Yellow = Snags Above 20ft. Height (10 M Plot)
We collected rainfall every 2 weeks unless heavy precipitation required more frequent collection
