ARDC Party Infrastructure Project The Project • National Library of Australia (NLA) project funded by the Australian National Data Service (ANDS) • The Aim: Adapt the NLA’s People Australia infrastructure so that the research sector could contribute and manage their party records and obtain NLA-issued persistent identifiers for their records about researchers and research organisations.
ARDC Party Infrastructure Project For researchers the aim was to provide: • One identifier, issued by the NLA, for each researcher to which all of his or her other identifiers can resolve. • A public identifier. • A persistent identifier for us to use • Example: http://nla.gov.au/nla.party-630330

ARDC Party Infrastructure Project What do we do now? • We need to provide the NLA with data so we can give our researchers persistent id’s • Some important points to note: • This is easier said than done. • There is no single point for data – it is kept in a number of systems that do not effectively talk to each other. • No one is responsible for this
ARDC Party Infrastructure Project Master Data Manager • The Aim: To build a comprehensive record about a researcher, their outputs, affiliations, data and grants. • It is hoped that this system will be installed next year 2012. • Watch this space.
