Environment • Top 20 Ports of Entry (POE) process over 80% of the land border traffic; • Over the past decade CBSA has focused capital investment on the large volume ports of entry with a focus on the Designated Commercial Offices (DCO); • The majority of the CBSA’s larger DCO ports have been, or are in the process of being redeveloped and are functional and provide adequate serviceability; • This focus on the larger Port of Entry has severely limited the funding available to address the critical rust-out issues facing a large percentage of the small and remote ports in the Agency’s custodial inventory.

Project Status UpdatePacific Region - Cascade Gateway • Under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan the commercial facilities at Pacific Highway and Abbotsford-Huntingdon were modernized and expanded to enable the Agency to provide effective and efficient service to the commercial trade community; • 5 additional Primary Inspection Lanes (PIL) have been constructed at the Pacific Highway Border crossing to increase inspection capacity and reduce the instances of border wait times; • As part of the PIL expansion at Pacific Highway, the NEXUS lane has been re-aligned to provide easier access for Trusted Travellers; • Investments designed to increase capacity and provide flexibility across the 4 Cascade Gateway Port of Entry; • Compliments investment made by the Province and State in the Advanced Traveller Information System (ATIS)

  5. Project Status UpdatePacific Region - Cascade Gateway Pacific Highway US Port - Blaine • Construction of new commercial examination facility; • Facility opened March 2012 • Construction of 5 additional PIL Lanes and realignment of NEXUS Lane; • New PIL Lanes opened May 2012

Project Status UpdatePacific Region - Cascade Gateway Abbotsford - Huntingdon US Port - Sumas • Doubled Commercial Primary Inspection lanes; • Provides increased capacity to respond to commercial traffic entering through the eastern most corridor of the Cascade Gateway; • Expanded commercial examination inspection capability • Project completed March 2012

Project Status UpdatePacific Region - Kingsgate • Modernization and expansion of the port was undertaken as part of the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan; • Project entailed the demolition and construction of new Travellers and Commercial facilities; • CBSA utilized recently developed standard design template and design/build construction approach to meet tight deadlines • Project completed March 2012 • Corresponding US Port - Eastport

Project Status UpdatePacific Region – Northern Housing Pleasant Camp US Port - Dalton Cache Beaver Creek US Port - Alcan Little Gold US - Port Poker Creek • Housing required to support the Agency’s Doubling-Up Initiative; • Projects initiated under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan • Little Gold and Pleasant Camp completed March 2011; • Big Beaver completed March 2012

Project Status UpdatePrairie Region • Small Port Replacement • Port modernization and replacement at Lyleton ( US Port – Antler), Goodlands (US port Carbury) and Coulter (US Port Westhope); • First projects utilizing CBSA’s standard small port footprint; • Substantial completion scheduled for March 2013

Project Status UpdateOntario Region - Prescott • Modernization and expansion of the port was undertaken as part of the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan; • Project entailed the demolition and construction of new Travellers and Commercial facilities; • CBSA utilized recently developed standard design template and design/build construction approach to meet tight deadlines; • Project completed March 2012; • Corresponding US Port - Ogdensburg

Challenges/Opportunities • Implementation of the CBSA initiatives outlined in the Beyond the Border Action Plan; • Ensure that the infrastructure at the top 20 ports of entry at the land border are able to respond to the traffic volumes and are capable of supporting the effective and efficient delivery of the Agency’s border inspection mandate; • Address the requirement to replace a vast majority of the Agency’s smaller ports while ensuring that those recently redeveloped remain functional and reliable; • Sustain the level of recapitalization required to ensure the maintenance of adequate border inspection facilities while continuing to support future investments

Priorities • Improve infrastructure at Initial Priority ports of entry identified by Canada in Beyond the Border Action Plan: • Lacolle, Lansdowne, Peace Bridge, Emerson and North Portal • Replacement, modernization and/or expansion of the port facilities at Aldergrove, Pleasant Camp, Fraser and St. Leonard; • Construction of a new commercial examination facility at Lacolle • Continue to address the growing impact of rust-out and building fatigue at the smaller and remote ports of entry
