Types of Parallelism • Synonymous Parallelism • Second line repeats the idea of the first line in a slightly different manner (11:25; 16:13, 16, 18) • A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. • Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value a man who speaks the truth. • How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver! • Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

Types of Parallelism • Antithetical Parallelism • Second line expresses the opposite of the first line (11:17) • A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself. • Synthetic Parallelism • Second line extends/expands the first line (10:18) • He who conceals his hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.
