Workshop on Advanced Accelerator Magnets “Magnets Beyond NbTi” March 17 – 18, 2003 Archamps, France S. Gourlay
Welcome and Thanks • Co-Organizers • Philippe Lebrun and Lucio Rossi, CERN • Logistical Support • Evelyne Delucinge, CERN • Claudine Bosteels, CERN • Sharon Buckley, LBNL S. Gourlay
Turning Point in Magnet Technology for Accelerators • Ultimate application of NbTi is now being implemented • New applications require properties beyond NbTi S. Gourlay
Workshop Goals • Survey the current development status of technologies that exceed the limits of NbTi. • Identify issues relevant to the development of full-scale, accelerator quality magnets utilizing the latest high-performance materials. • Identify and discuss future applications and requirements for magnet technology. • Organize an international collaboration that makes use of existing resources and infrastructure that will form the basis for cooperation on future high-energy physics projects.
