1. This tutorial begins at http://library.cpit.ac.nz/ or Google CPIT Library and choose the first link. 2. Select Subject Guides & Databases in bottom right
3. Browse by subject to select Nursing 4. Select Databases / Articles 5. Select Science Direct 6. Select Advanced Search in top right corner.
7 a. Enter your search terms. • Use OR to combine similar terms e.g. management OR assessment • ulcer* will find ulcer, ulcers, ulcerated etc. b. Select your date range c. Click on Search
8. a. The green icon means the PDF will show a full-text article b. The grey icon means the PDF will only show an abstract of the article 9. Select PDF to view full article or abstract. 10. In top left corner you can choose to: a. print your article b. email your article(recommended)
11. Note: All Science Direct articles have a DOI number. 12. To find the DOInumber close your PDF to return to the article details in Science Direct. 13. Click on the title to view full details. In this example, the DOInumber appears after the http://dx.doi.org/ e.g. 10.1016j.eurger.2011.08.008 14. See your APA reference guide for instructions on referencing a journal article with a DOI
15. Use the back arrow in the top left corner to: • return to your search results • alter your search terms if necessary Note about peer-reviewed articles A peer-reviewed article is one that has been assessed by experts in the applicable field and then approved for publication by that journal. All Science Direct articles are peer-reviewed.
