  4. INDUCTING STAFF • Induction – induction (or orientation) is a form of training, usually carried out at the beginning of an employment relationship, that provides employees with basic background information about the business as well as information needed to perform the job satisfactorily.

  5. MOTIVATING STAFF • Employee motivation – factors that drive an employee to achieve in the workplace. • internal • external

INTERNAL • INTERNAL (personal) • The desire to be successful and attain goals within and outside the business • An aspiration or desire to ‘climb the corporate ladder’ or seek out a higher position within the business • The need to provide a secure and stable environment for family • The desire to provide for recreational opportunities such as travel or entrainment

EXTERNAL • EXTERNAL (factors within the business) • Opportunities for career development and advancement through training and succession planning • Clearly defined and obtainable objectives for each employee • Recognition based on performance and achievement of objectives • Effective leadership; that is ,the ability of managers to motivate staff • An environment where open and honest communication is a given and professional relationships are built on trust
