Inscription • This lighthouse has a very amazing inscription that is key to its significance. • Its basically says that we must remember that that spot is were so many of our ideas have been thought and have been accomplished and as it shines it will symbolize all the greatness that has been and is yet to come be accomplished in our wonderful town of Manteo. • "In the years to come, as islanders mingle with visitors along the Manteo waterfront, let us remember that on this spot, where so many vessels have been built and launched, dreams still light the way. For how else can you explain how a lighthouse now casts its reassuring beam into the night sky, where the Town's wastewater treatment plant once stood? Safeguarding the environment, honoring our past, and dreaming of a brighter future is Manteo's shining path."
History of the Lighthouse • The new one was dedicated by the town of Manteo on September 25, 2004. • It was once a water treatment plant and then it was rebuilt to the one that is currently shown today. • The original lighthouse was hard to reach as it stood in the southern part of Roanoke Island. • The original lighthouse marked the entrance between the Croatan and Pamlico Sounds. • This structure was unsafe and so they had to build a replica.
