Education 1.0 • Meaning is dictated • Technology is confiscated at the classroom door • Teaching is done teacher to student • Schools are located in a building • Parents view schools as daycare • Teachers are licensed professionals • Hardware and software in schools are purchased at great cost and ignored • Industry views graduates as assembly line workers

Web 2.0 • Wildly read-write web • 1 billion + global users • Focused on communities • Blogs • Sharing content • Web applications • Tagging • Google According to the Wikipedia, Web 2.0 is defined as: "Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2004[1], refers to a supposed second generation of Internet-based services - such as social networking sites, Wikis, communication tools, and folksonomies - that emphasize online collaboration and sharing among users."

Education 2.0 • Meaning is socially construction • Technology is cautiously adopted • Teaching is done teacher to student and student to student • Schools are locate in a building or onlin • Parents view schools as daycare • Teachers are licensed professionals • Hardware and software in schools are open source and available at lower cost • Industry views graduates as ill prepared assemble line worked in a knowledge economy

Web 3.0 • Portable personal web • Focused on the individual • Lifestream • Consolidating dynamic content • User behavior • User management • iGoogle, NetVibes • Widgets, drag and drop mashups "Web 3.0, a phrase coined by John Markoff of the New York Times in 2006, refers to a supposed third generation of Internet-based services that collectively comprise what might be called "the intelligent Web" -- such as those using semantic web, microformats, natural language search, data-mining, machine learning, recommendation agents, and artificial intelligence technologies - which emphasize machine-facilitated understanding of information in order to provide a more productive and intuitive user experience."

Education 3.0 • Meaning is socially construction and contextually reinvented • Technology is everywhere • Teaching is done teacher to student and student to student, student to teacher, people-technology-people • Schools are located everywhere infused into society, cages, workplaces, buildings and online • Parents view schools as a place for them to learn, too • Teachers are everybody, everywhere • Hardware and software in schools are available at lower cost and used purposefully • Industry views graduates as co-workers or entrpreneurs

  10. Are Web 3.0 and Education 3.0 related? • Education 3.0 is not a technology but a consequence of the emergence of technology – which is changing the way individuals, institutions and businesses behave

  11. New ways to search • Searching is becoming personalized • Searching is becoming more credible • Searching is becoming more language oriented • Searching is evolving

  14. Vyew offers real time conferencing and collaboration. Upload or create any kind of content. Give a presentation to up to 100 people at the same time.

  15. Ning is a social network. The Friday Institute, ASU partnership for schools, DPI Technology for Educators use the Ning to share information and collaborate on various projects.

  16. Voice Thread can be used to create a picture book, to upload and narrate PowerPoint's, to learn how to do math, to use an interactive board and the possibilities are limitless.

  17. Wiggio is used to share group information. There is a group calendar, folder for uploading files, polling, messages, links and subgroups can be created with Wiggio. We use it for our regional groups to communicate, along with Ning.
