Illinois Standards • 11.A.4a Formulate hypotheses referencing prior research and knowledge. • 11.A.4c Collect, organize and analyze data accurately and precisely. • 11.A.4f Using available technology, report, display and defend to an audience conclusions drawn from investigations. • 11.B.4b Propose and compare different solution designs to the design problem based upon given constraints including available tools, materials and time. • 11.B.4c Develop working visualizations of the proposed solution designs (e.g., blueprints, schematics, flowcharts, cad-cam, animations).

Questions • How do Hurricanes form? • Where does the National weather service assume the Hurricane will hit next? • How many Hurricanes occurred within the year 2012? • What is the considered wind speed for a hurricane? • What determines the category of the Hurricane?
Evaluation Names will be drawn from a hat and will be placed into groups of three. With an appointed group representative who determines each students job. All Students must work together as a team, but have separate tasks that must be performed. At the end of the week each group will show case their project and explain their plan to the class. • Display a map or plan in an event of evacuation for the state of Louisiana. • Chief meteorologist – Research where Hurricane Isaac is located. • Governor of Louisiana- Determine if the citizens of Louisiana should evacuate. • Governors Assistant- Organize rescue operations for wildlife, homeless, set up shelters , and help barracked homes.
Teachers Extension • The Students will go on a field to trip to The Science and Industry and visit the exhibit. • Then they will answer 10 questions about the exhibit. • Students will read a book I Survived Katarina in class. • Students create a diorama of a hurricane. • Role play being a meteorologist by making a script for todays weather and present in front of class.
