Focus • Reducing tardies for the 2008-2009 school year ABC-UBI 2008-2009
Rationale • Looking at the number of tardies for the 2007-08 school year, we were concerned. Our committee decided to focus on bringing the number of tardies down. ABC-UBI 2008-2009
Data Indicators • Data used to guide our team was produced from Granite School District Hot List Attendance Report for 2007-08 and 2008-2009 school yearbased on tardies ABC-UBI 2008-2009
Trends and changes in data • At the end of the 2007-08 school year, the total number of tardies were as follows: A Track – 1976, B Track – 1241, C Track - 987, D Track – 1212 • Changes in data indicate a reduction for all tracks for the 2008-09 school year as follows: A Track – 995, B Track – 686, C Track – 562, D Track - 483 ABC-UBI 2008-2009
Implementation • Letters were sent to inform parents of frequent tardies indicating the amount of instructional time students were missing • Promptness training for students who were tardy during a 3 week period • No-Tardy Parties as a reward for students who had less than a specified number of tardies • Attendance tracker rewarded on-time behavior of at-risk students • Parent meetings were scheduled at the end of Kindergarten to emphasize the importance of attendance ABC-UBI 2008-2009
Current Data • According to the data, our efforts to decrease the total number of tardies have been successful ABC-UBI 2008-2009
Plans for Continuous Improvement • Beginning the 2009-2010 school year, in order to attend a No-Tardy Party the total number of tardies allowed will be ZERO • Possible implementation of a Friday School to make up lost instructional time due to tardies • Meeting with parents for students with excessive tardies • Publicity in the local paper of No-Tardy Parties • Post photos of students who attend No-Tardy Parties ABC-UBI 2008-2009
Discussion • Overall the process went well when focusing on one area of improvement • In the beginning we tried to accomplish too much in too many areas • Choosing to focus on just tardies, we felt that we made improvements but still have room to progress • Next year’s focus will be on behavior issues ABC-UBI 2008-2009
