Course Requirements: Attendance • Class meets twice a week (Tues & Thurs). • Attendance is required. • Attendance will be called every day at the beginning of class. • If you are late to class, come see me either at the ten minute break (midway point) or at the end of class. • If you have to leave class early, please send me an email telling me what time you left the classroom.
Course Requirements: Attendance • If you will not be attending a class, or miss a class, please send me an email with the reason for your absence.
Course Requirements: Attendance There are four ways to get dropped from this class: (all are attendance-based) • If I mark you absent 2 or more class periods in a row prior to March 1 and I have not received an email from you explaining either of these absences • If you miss three classes or more before the end of the third week
Course Requirements: Attendance There are four ways to get dropped from this class (continued): • Beginning at the start of the 4th week and ending March 1, if your attendance falls below 70% and your current grade in the class is a D+ or lower • If at any time you owe me two exams; so if you miss an in-class exam, you must make it up in my office before the next exam occurs
Course Requirements: Attendance • You can erase one absence by “working the deck down to zero” for one chapter in the LearnSmart tool. • The LearnSmart tool costs $24.95 for the whole quarter.
Course Requirements: Reading Assignments • Completion of the reading assignments is essential. • Textbook: Selected Materials from Understanding Business, Ninth edition, Customized for De Anza College, by Nickels, McHugh, and McHugh. Published by McGraw-Hill. • The full ninth edition will also work • You do NOT need the McGraw-Hill Connect registration card!
Course Requirements: Internet Access • Speedy and reliable Internet access is essential to your success. • Use the computers in the De Anza Library or the Library annex basement if you do not have speedy and reliable Internet access at home. • 25% of your course grade will be earned by completing the online quizzes in the course website delivered via De Anza’s Catalystsystem • These quizzes cannot be completed late!
Course Requirements: Weekly Online Quizzes • The due dates of the quizzes can be found in the course calendar at the back of the course syllabus OR in the Catalyst system. • Quizzes cannot be completed late • Your course grade will be lowered by 1/8th of one percentage point for each quiz you do not take. • You can erase the missed quiz penalty for one chapter’s missed quizzes by “working the deck down to zero” for that chapter in LearnSmart.
Course Requirements: Exams • Five Exams • Each worth 15% of your grade • Each covers 3 chapters • None are dropped • Multiple choice and true/false • Closed-book, closed-note • You will need one ParSCORE form for each • See the course calendar at the back of the course syllabus for the date of each exam and the chapters covered
