Violence committed by customers or clients : •This category includescustomers,clients, patients, studentsand inmates. •These incidents occur largely in the health care industry,suchasnursinghomesorpsychiatricfacilities, wherethevictimsareoftenpatientcaregivers. •Policeofficers,prison staff,flightattendantsand teachersalso areexamplesofworkers whomaybeexposedtothis typeof violence.

PROTECTIVE SERVICES POLICE DEPARTMENT WorkplaceViolenceAwareness Presentation ManagementsResponsibility: SafeWorkingEnvironment The General DutyClauseof the OccupationalSafetyand HealthAct of 1970 describes anemployer’sobligationto address workplaceviolencein Section 5(a)(1)ofthe OSHAAct (1970), also referred to asPublicLaw91-596. The GeneralDutyClauseprovides that: “Eachemployershallfurnishtoeachofhisemployees employmentandaplaceofemploymentwhicharefreefrom recognizedhazardsthatare causingorarelikelytocause deathor serious physicalharmtoemployees.” (29 U.S.C.654(a)(1) (“OSHA:Archive”)
