  1. Blended Learning Storyboard By: Solita Shelton EDUC 7101

  2. Flexibility • Convenience • Provides synchronous and asynchronous learning • Larger course offering • Makes students responsible for their own learning • Improved pedagogy Need What problem or need existed that gave rise to your innovation?

  3. Late nineties • Press release on blended learning March 5, 1999 • Previously viewed as an adult learning environment. Research What research organization or people developed a solution to this problem or need? What were their findings? Who were the lead thinkers for this innovation, and how did they convince a manufacturer to produce it?

  4. http://navigator.compasslearning.com/technology/blended-learning-disruptive-innovation/http://navigator.compasslearning.com/technology/blended-learning-disruptive-innovation/ • http://www.helsinki.fi/valtiotieteellinen/julkaisut/blended_learning_Finland.pdf • Adult learners were the intended environment Development What problems were encountered in the development process for your innovation? Who was the intended audience for your innovation?

  5. Media specialists • Adult learners • Teachers • Site based • Online • The interest is growing • Moving into public schools for k-12 Commercialization Describe the production, manufacturing, packaging, marketing, and distrubution of your innovation.

  6. S-Curve Blended Learning in K-12 Education is fairly new. The only data I found is research that showed it has increased by 30% each year for the past ten years. This concludes that it would not be a curve, but more of a straight line.

  7. The technologists and myself would be the change agents in this organization. We would be the three who have researched the ideas and concepts behind blended learning. The seven roles of a change agent would be distributed out between us to encourage others and provide them with the opportunities to test the idea. In order to begin we would have to address the problem we are having that would need the change, adopt a plan, take action, stabilize adoption, and achieve relationships. • The teachers would be the early adopters in the field. My classroom now is a blended classroom in which we use an online program to take the courses while I work with students individually and in groups to master objectives. • The laggards would be the veteran teachers who have taught face to face for years. They have resisted the use of e-mail and other technologies introduced into our curriculum. Trailability and observabitily would be great ways to allow them to see the benefits of blended technology in K-12 classrooms. IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THE ADOPTION Who will you recommend as key change agents in your organization, and how can the seven roles of a change agent be used in your organization to effect positive social change? Who would you expect to be (or who are) the innovators and early adopters in your field of work for the innovation you are exploring? What strategies are the most persuasive in convincing them to adopt the innovation? Who do you think would be (or who are) the laggards in terms of rejecting the innovation? What strategies would be best to help move them toward adoption?

  8. The combination of trialability and observability would be great for helping blended learning meet critical mass in K-12 education. ATTRIBUTES Which combination of perceived attributes would be best for helping your innovation meet critical mass in your industry?

  9. A decentralized approach would best fit this situation in that it is a broad topic. Many people think of blended learning in different ways. The topic of interest in this case would be blended learning in the sense of face-to-face and distance learning. According to Rogers (2003) a decentralized source of innovations come from users who often experiment with the style of learning. APPRAOCH Do you believe a centralized or decentralized approach would work best for the adoption of the innovation you are proposing to the Board of Directors?

  10. Blended learning has not met critical mass in K-12 education. It is on rise, but many are still in doubt of the idea. As with this district, many teachers are being flooded with ideas and are not exactly sure as to how to implement them into the classroom. Providing incentitives for the participation in the pioting of the concept would be sufficient. CRITICAL MASS Has the innovation you are proposing to the Board already met critical mass in society? If it has not met critical mass, which of the four strategies for achieving critical mass do you recommend to the Board for your innovation?
