Note Names and Values • There are three basic notes that you need to know. They are…
The Whole Note • The whole note is held for four steady beats. When you start playing, count to four in your head. 1-2-3-4 • Or, you can say “super long note.” SU-PER-LONG-NOTE • Practice clapping or playing a whole note.
The Half Note • The half note is held for two steady beats. When you start playing, count to two in your head. 1-2 • Or, you can say “long note.” LONG-NOTE • Practice clapping or playing a half note.
The Quarter Note • The quarter note is held for one steady beat. When you start playing, count to one in your head. 1 • Or, you can say “short.” SHORT • Practice clapping or playing a quarter note.
