TYPICAL CIRCUIT NCSX CT- Current Transducer PT-Voltage Transducer G- Ground fault Relaying S. Ramakrishnan Slide 6
Typical Circuit Arrangement Contd. • DC power transmitted from D-site (FCPC) to C-site (EF/OH Bldg) via overhead transmission (1000 MCM cables) • Disconnect and grounding switches provided at both ends • Existing cables used to connect to MG bus to Test Cell • Current/ Voltage transducers provided • Rapid changeover (4 hrs) possible S. Ramakrishnan Slide 7
DC Transmission Structure • Design of Structure sub-contracted to Burns Group (BG) • BG has submitted preliminary drawings for PPPL Review and Comments • This review is to provide comments to BG on the proposed Structure S. Ramakrishnan Slide 8
Schedule for Installing DC Transmission • BG to Complete Design by 03/31/04 • Present the final BG design in an FDR at PPPL before end of April 2004. • PPPL to provide comments on the preliminary design by BG by 02/27/04 S. Ramakrishnan Slide 9
Conclusions • Sharing D-site power supplies with NSTX is cost-effective for powering NCSX coils • Technical risks are minimal • Since this is standard electrical work • Cost risks are modest • Schedule risks are addressed • Enough Float in Schedule • Is performed by experienced personnel. • Careful planning with NSTX operating schedule • Completion in time to support PTP/ISTP • Highest priority to Personnel Safety with Disconnect & Ground switches and Mechanical & Electrical Interlocks S.
