Liaison Program Guidelines • Liaison is aimed at fostering greater cooperation and understanding between teaching and library staff in order to provide appropriate support to teachers and students and to achieve greater integration of Library services and facilities into the educational programs of each center.
Weekly meetings with Centre staff LL must know the courses taught LL must know who teaches the courses LL promote use of library resources LL integrate Info lit into programs LL support staff with online teaching programs LL will develop educational programs for teachers and students LL know the systems in the Institute that are used for teaching (DLSS) Standards
Process • The liaison librarians will find out who the staff are from their allocated Centres and what they teach. • The Liaison Librarian will find out what units are within the courses.
Process • The Liaison Librarian will meet weekly with staff of the allocated Centre to discuss their needs and how the library can support their programs: • Gain copies of lesson plans if possible and provide resource support. • Liaison staff must know the DLSS system and the content relevant to their allocated Centres
Process • Collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy skills into student assignments • Resource support for Interns and Masters’ programs undertaken by staff. • Offer assistance with providing resources for DLSS
Process • Checking of Table of Contents in periodicals for material relevant to assignments/course • Teach staff how to use the catalogue effectively and utilize its special features • Promote services to staff at Staff Meeting
Process • Develop promotional material • Develop tutorials for: • Online Catalogue • Internet search engines • Searching strategies
Promotion • Check resources needed for assignments set by teachers. • Check or compile reading lists • Resource lists/Bibliographies • Current awareness • Periodicals • Special topics
Promotion • Databases • Infotrac, Elibrary, APAFT, etc • Legislation • Statistics • Weblink resources
Promotion • Tutorials in the library • “Finding Stuff” - Research Tutorials • Inter-library loans • Online ordering
Training Gaps • Know about the business of the Institute – Teaching and Learning. • Familiarity with the Institute handbook and courses taught • Understanding the meaning and impact of the Australian qualifications framework (AQF). • Know about and understand the impact of Training packages • Know how to access DLSS
Understanding of and familiarity with the Toolboxes. • Knowledge of the sites available to teachers such as: • EDNA • NCVER • LEARNING FEDERATION • MIT The Massachusetts Institute of Technology http://ocw.mit.edu/index.html
