Replacement of existing National Courses and Units • All existing National Courses (Access 2, Access 3, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, current Higher, current Advanced Higher) will finish in July 2015 • Where existing Units in these Courses are being replaced, existing Units will continue to be available until July 2016 • No entries for existing Units will be accepted after this date • Where existing Units form part of Group Awards such as National Certificates and NPAs the replacement Units will also become part of these Awards • Existing Units that are not being replaced will continue to be available until they are either replaced or removed as part of our current portfolio review process
Skills for Work (SfW) Courses • SfW Course levels at Access 3, Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2 have been changed to National 3, National 4 and National 5 respectively • Unit codes remain the same • Course and Unit content has not changed • Open entries for existing levels can be resulted in the normal way • SfW Higher Courses will be recoded in 2014

Recognising Positive Achievement • Precedent in current system at interface between Intermediate 1 and Access 3 courses will happen in new system at interface between National 5 and National 4 courses only • Recognising Positive Achievement supports candidates who do not achieve a National 5 course between grades A and D achieve the course at National 4
Recognising Positive Achievement • A candidate who achieves grade 8 or 9 (No Award) in a National 5 course will get a National 4 course if the following criteria are met: • There is a hierarchical/corresponding course at National 4 • The candidate has passed all the internally assessed Units in the National 5 course • The candidate has passed the National 4 Added Value Unit • For English, Gàidhlig and Maths courses the candidate has passed the required additional Literacy/Numeracy Unit
Recognising Positive Achievement • Detailed guidance on Recognising Positive Achievement is available at www.sqa.org.uk/cfedelivery • No Recognising Positive Achievement between Higher and National 5 courses will be introduced. Consistent with current arrangements • SQA will promote the value of National 4 and the robust nature of the quality assurance that will underpin the courses
Subject Support Event for Practitioners • 142 subject specific events to support introduction of National 3 – National 5 courses held across Scotland between October 2012 and March 2013. Video/presentations online at www.sqa.org.uk/events2012(Username: events2012, Password: cfe2012) • Over 7000 practitioners attended events. Exceptionally positive feedback • Events for new awards: 16 April, Modern Language for Life and Work. 26 April, Personal Development • 146 subject support events for new Higher courses will be held November 2013 – March 2014. www.sqa.org.uk/cfeevents • Series of webinars focussing on delivery processes running once a fortnight until November • Events to support new Advanced Higher courses will be held in November 2014 - March 2015.
