  1. Order Pairs and Relations Pre Algebra 8/26 -8/27

  2. What are we learning about today? • How to use ordered pairs to locate points. • How to use tables and graphs to represent relations.

  3. How are ordered pairs used in the “real world” • We use ordered pairs to discuss location. • Coordinates are ordered pairs that help pin point location, used in the military.

  4. Words to Know • Vocab. • Coordinate systems… • Orders pair • Used to locate points. Intersection of two numbers on a line. • The pair of two numbers is used to communicate the location.

  5. More….Smart Words • X- coordinate • Y- coordinate • Graph • 1st number called, number located across the coordinate plane (left, right) • 2nd number called, number located (up and down) the coordinate plane. • Drawing a dot on the point where the pair of numbers meet.

  6. Let’s Practice Graphing Ordered Pairs a Bit….Shall we? http://www.beaconlearningcenter.com/weblessons/GridGraph/default.htm

  7. Relation • Domain • Range • Is a set of order pairs, just like the shape you just created • (1,2) (2,4) (3,0) (4,5) • All the X-coordinates (red) • All the Y- coordinates (blue)

  8. A relation can be shown in several ways • 1) Ordered Pair • 2) Table • 3) Graph • (1,2) • (2,4) • (3,0) • X Y 1 2 • 2 4 • 3 0 • I hope you know what a graph looks like.

  9. Practice It!!! • Textbook Page 36 • # 1- 25 • This is quite independent practice!!! • You will have only fifteen minutes then we will start the game…. You mess it up , NO GAME!!
